Our standards
The Ethical Content Standard
What our templates follow, what we ask of the organisations we host, and how to tell us when something is wrong.
What this standard is
The Ethical Content Standard (ECS) is the written set of rules MasjidWeb applies to the templates, default content and tools it provides, and the terms we ask every hosted organisation to accept.
We are a host and tool provider. We do not certify that any individual organisation site meets the standard, and we do not issue religious rulings. Each organisation is responsible for what it publishes.
Where it comes from
The standard is informed by well-established, published scholarly guidance. Where scholars differ, we take the more cautious view for our own templates and say so rather than presenting a disputed view as settled.
We attribute rather than rule. Each organisation publishes its own content under its own scholars, so we leave that decision to the organisation.
What our templates and defaults follow
MasjidWeb templates contain no music or musical instruments, and no vocal effects that imitate them. Nothing plays automatically.
MasjidWeb supplies no photographs of people or animals in its templates and starter content.
MasjidWeb templates never depict the Prophets or the Companions.
Charitable giving is kept separate by purpose: zakat, sadaqah and lillah are distinct, restricted funds.
What we ask of hosted organisations
No music in uploaded videos. Modest imagery. Consent from parents or guardians before photographs of children are published.
Each organisation is verified once, before its site first goes live. Our review tools can recommend; a person makes the decision.
If you see a problem
Anyone can report content on an organisation site. We notify the organisation, set a deadline, and remove the content if it is not fixed. Repeated breaches mean we decline to renew hosting.
