How to take online donations for your organisation
Plain steps for adding a donation page people can trust.
Say what gifts are used for
People give more when they know where the money goes. Write two or three plain sentences about what donations pay for, such as running costs, classes or a building fund.
Use a trusted payment provider
Use an established payment provider rather than asking people to send money to a personal account. Never collect card details on your own pages.
Make the donate link easy to find
Put one clear link in the main menu and on the home page. Keep the donation page short, with the amount choices at the top.
Offer regular giving
Let people give weekly or monthly as well as once. Regular gifts help you plan, and many supporters prefer them.
Say thank you
Send a short confirmation after every gift. If you are a registered charity and can claim Gift Aid, check the rules first and keep the records your regulator asks for.
