Guide
How to choose a domain name for your organisation
Short, easy to say and easy to spell, and how to keep hold of it.
Keep it short and easy to say
Pick a name people can say aloud and type without help. Avoid hyphens, numbers and unusual spellings, because visitors will get them wrong.
Use your organisation name
The closest match to your real name is the one people will guess first. If it is taken, add your town rather than a made-up word, for example the name followed by the town.
Register it in your organisation's name
Make sure the domain is registered to the organisation, not to one volunteer. If that person moves on, you could lose control of your own address.
Set a renewal reminder
Domains expire every year or few years. Turn on automatic renewal and put the date in a shared calendar, so the site never disappears by accident.
